What to Use After Laser, IPL, or a Peel
After the treatment is when the routine matters
Laser, IPL, microneedling, and chemical peels all work the same basic way: controlled injury, then repair. The repair phase is where results are made or lost — and it's also when your regular skincare is most likely to betray you. Freshly treated skin has a compromised barrier, which means fragrance, essential oils, acids, and retinoids that were merely borderline before are now genuinely irritating.
First rule: your provider's protocol wins
Whatever your clinic told you to use in the first days after treatment, use that. This page is about the weeks after — when you're cleared for regular skincare but your skin is still touchy, and the question becomes: regular skincare from what?
The post-procedure checklist
Fragrance-free and essential-oil-free, non-foaming cleanser, barrier-building moisturizer, no active exfoliants until fully settled. Which describes the Schaf line almost verbatim, because it was built for reactive skin from the start:
- Facial Cleanser — $49. Gentle enough for skin that's still deciding how it feels about you.
- Moisturizer — $79. Hyaluronic acid, squalane, niacinamide, peptides, CoQ10 — hydration and barrier support without a single fragrance compound.
- Once fully healed: Serum — $99, bakuchiol and ectoine — to extend the results you just paid for without re-irritating.
Every Schaf product is fragrance-free and essential-oil-free — all of them, since 2013. Made in Canada. About 80% of people who try it reorder.
Common questions
How soon after a treatment can I use this? That's your provider's call, not ours — protocols differ by treatment depth. Once they clear you for regular products, everything here qualifies as the gentle end of regular.
Why does fragrance matter more after a procedure? A disrupted barrier lets more of everything in. Compounds that normally sit on the surface reach live cells — which is why post-procedure reactions to old favourites are so common.
What's the risk of trying Schaf? Thirty days, empty jar, full refund if your skin isn't happier. First order includes a free full-size Scrub ($55) with code INTRO — details on the Introduction Kit page. (Hold the Scrub until your skin is fully settled.)
