You don't have problem skin. You have problem products.
You don't have problem skin - you have problem products.
Some skin care brands and trendy skin care regimes encourage a multitude of steps and products - as many as 12 steps a day!
That's just nuts.
Your skin doesn’t need that, and neither does your wallet.
Healthy skin can usually regulate itself. But applying too much product trains your skin to rely on these products and it gets lazy, and can't find any kind of balance with all the product being thrown at it, and perpetuates many skin problems.
There’s also trend to treat specific skin ‘conditions’. You have a zit, use this zit product. A oily forehead, and dry cheeks, then use these two separate products. Morning cleanser, and a different evening cleanse? This is all nonsense.
Some brands are treating the ‘condition’ without treating the skin. And then treating the condition too aggressively. It's like chemo for a head cold. Healthy skin doesn’t need much help to fend for itself.
Your skin should be able to heal itself. The misconception is that products are there to resolve when problems arise. That’s only partially true. Using too many products can actually contribute to the problem, and it turns into this vicious cycle. And your skin gets terribly confused and forgets how to help itself - it gets bombarded with all kinds of things thrown at it before it even has time to react to the last thing that came along.
I believe biggest mistake people make when it comes to skincare is thinking they need special products for special skin issues. While it is true that there are some differences between male and female skin - men’s is thicker, and women’s is thinner making it more susceptible to damage, and at age 50, hormones make a mess of things for both genders - that doesn’t fundamentally change how skin works or what it needs to calm, heal, and protect itself. The truth is, it comes down to cutting out the bad stuff and only using simple, clean ingredients on your skin, because that’s what your skin needs regardless of gender, age or skin type.
Aim for healthy skin and skin issues will be far less common.
And keep it simple.
Your skin will thank you.
